When I started my first kit, I had so little knowledge of the use of woodworking tools that I'm ashamed to tell the story. But, it's true. I had built nothing of wood during my life, and there I was, 57 years old, thinking about building a guitar? Silly, right?

But I went ahead and did it. I was very careful, taking months to complete the first one. I had help from a dear friend with a wood shop. Eventually, I built my own little shop, and in that shop I completed about twenty guitars over thirteen years. I still have seven of them and play them when my nerve problem in my left hand isn't acting up.

I think the building of a guitar by someone who enjoys playing the instrument is a truly fulfilling experience. When you first string it up, your expectations are not very high. In truth, you expect it to implode! But, it doesn't, and truth be told, I haven't yet built a guitar that didn't sound better than I expected. I have now sold off my Goodall, my Martins, my Taylors and other branded guitars, and only have my own. I don't regret it for even a second.

Look into building one for yourself. You won't ever regret it.
